Fiamme Gialle mountain shelter

Competition

Project: Riccardo Pedrazzoli Bonvecchio with Francesca Lavarini
Tipology: Mountain shelter
Location: Various locations in Trentino Dolomites (IT)
Status: Competition (2023)

The theme of this competition is a type of semi-prefabricated high-altitude shelter to be built in three specimen destined to replace pre-existing similar objects in three different sites in the Trentino Dolomites.
The simple square plan allows for three levels of bunks to be arranged on three sides, being the fourth occupied by the recessed access niche.
The building is raised 60 cm above the ground to keep the entrance above the level of snow and increase visibility in the landscape.
The largest of the four ground anchoring feet is the only with fixed dimensions for all the specimen since it integrates the access ladder; the remaining three legs may have variable lengths depending on the installation site, in order to adapt to the different contours of the ground.
The casing, covered in seamed sheet metal, is engraved around the entire perimeter with a 30 cm high opening that offers a 360° view. Beyond the mere panoramic function, the solution allows to monitor the external situation for more practical needs (weather situation, equipment stored outside, identification of other hikers).
