Competition

Project: Riccardo Pedrazzoli Bonvecchio with Francesca Lavarini
Tipology: New headquarters of the Municipality
Location: San Giovanni di Fassa, Trento (TN)
Status: Competition (2023)

The new headquarters of the Val di Fassa valley community will be built on the site of the pre-existing Vittorio Veneto Barracks in Vigo di Fassa and will house the council room, several offices including that of the “procurador”, archives, meeting rooms and a guesthouse.

The proposed concept is a composition of three elongated bodies staggered from each other, the central one, dug internally at full height, distributing the functional program housed in the two on the sides. The articulated development of the north and south facades allows the spaces to have a widespread view towards outside and lightens the impact of the built volume. The particular pitched roof, arranged in diagonal in relation to the structural grid, gives breath and plasticity both to the boardrooms on the top floor and to the central triple volume, and at the same time characterises the shape of the building from every angle.

The same shaping that crowns the facades is then mirrored at their bases, mimicking a continuous portico that raises the built mass, puts the ground floor in direct communication with the surrounding greenery and makes it visually permeable and accessible to the public.

The layout of the elevations on the upper floors is organised by large openings, some divided into several windows serving adjacent rooms, interspersed with large portions of blind façade. This solution allows the interior to be supplied with abundant natural light, avoiding dampening the expressiveness of the architectural form with a more regular scheme: the abstract and scenographic appearance of the elevations thus corresponds to a lively and equally scenographic interior in which each room benefits from a different light.
